Hackney Peace Symbol

Gerald Holtom was a conscientious objector during World War II. In 1958 Holstom was living in Hackney where he designed the famous peace symbol. Holtsom later said that when he designed the symbol he was inspired by the peasants outstretched arms Goya’s painting The Third of May 1808.

Sixty-five years later Hackney is a bastion of tolerance and freedom. We know that at Findlay we are just a small voice but we utterly condemn the actions of Hamas and we lend our voice to the international call for a humanitarian ceasefire to end the epic suffering in Gaza.
