East London Line connects with Highbury & Islington

A £50 million, 1.3-mile section of railway extending the East London Line north from Dalston Junction to Highbury & Islington was opened on 28th February by Mayor Boris Johnson.

This allows Victoria line, national rail and London Overground passengers to change onto the East London Line at Highbury & Islington – bringing much easier journeys to Canary Wharf and the chance to avoid central London.

The East London Line extension opened last May and carries 70,000 passengers a day. That is now expected to rise to 100,000 a day with a train in each direction every seven minutes. It will take six minutes to get from Dalston Junction to Highbury & Islington.

Shoreditch High Street station is just five minutes’ walk from Liverpool Street. There is now an easier interchange at Canada Water to the Jubilee line for Canary Wharf.
